Ingredients

For the Smoothie
  • 1 large banana frozen, sliced
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 0.75 cup milk dairy or non-dairy, cold
  • 0.5 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup optional, adjust to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • Blender

Method

Prepare Ingredients
  1. Get all your ingredients ready. For optimal blending, first add the milk, yogurt, honey/maple syrup (if using), and vanilla extract (if using) to your blender. This liquid base helps the blades spin freely.
  2. Next, add the sliced frozen banana and the frozen blueberries to the blender. Using frozen fruit is key to getting a thick, cold smoothie without needing ice, which can water it down.
  3. Secure the lid and start blending on a low speed, gradually increasing to high. Blend for 30-60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy, with no visible chunks of fruit. You might need to pause and scrape down the sides with a spatula.
  4. Taste the smoothie. If you prefer it sweeter, add a bit more honey or maple syrup and blend briefly. If it's too thick, add a splash more milk (1-2 tablespoons at a time) and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Pour the freshly blended banana blueberry smoothie into a tall glass and enjoy right away! Smoothies are best enjoyed cold and fresh.

Notes

For an extra thick smoothie, try adding a few ice cubes along with the frozen fruit, or reduce the amount of milk slightly.
To make this smoothie even more nutritious, sneak in a handful of fresh spinach. You won't taste it, and it adds a boost of vitamins and minerals.
If you're short on time, prep your frozen banana slices in advance by peeling and slicing ripe bananas and freezing them in a single layer in a freezer-safe bag or container.
