Ingredients

For the Sandwich
  • 1 sausage patty (2-3 oz), pre-cooked or raw breakfast sausage
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice American or cheddar cheese
  • 1 English muffin split
  • 1/2 tbsp butter or cooking oil for egg and muffin
  • 1 pinch salt to taste
  • 1 pinch black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Non-stick Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Toaster

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. If using a raw sausage patty, heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook the sausage patty for 3-4 minutes per side, or until thoroughly cooked through and browned. Remove from skillet and set aside. If using pre-cooked, warm it in the skillet for 1-2 minutes per side.
  2. In the same skillet, melt a small amount of butter or add oil. Crack the egg directly into the skillet (or whisk it in a bowl first if you prefer scrambled-style). Season with salt and pepper. Cook to your desired doneness (e.g., fried with a runny yolk, or scrambled).
  3. While the egg and sausage cook, toast the English muffin halves in a toaster or toaster oven until golden brown.
  4. Place the cooked sausage patty on the bottom half of the toasted English muffin. Top with the slice of cheese, then the cooked egg. The residual heat will help melt the cheese.
  5. Place the other half of the English muffin on top to complete the sandwich. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or hot sauce on the English muffin before assembling. To make it even quicker, you can cook multiple sausage patties and eggs ahead of time and reheat them in a microwave or skillet.
