Ingredients

For the Southern Comeback Sauce
  • 1 cup mayonnaise full-fat for best flavor
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce or ketchup for a milder flavor
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper freshly ground preferred
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper or more to taste for extra heat (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce such as Frank's RedHot or Tabasco, or to taste

Equipment

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Airtight Container

Method

Combine Ingredients
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, and Dijon mustard.
  2. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and hot sauce to the bowl.
  3. Whisk all ingredients together thoroughly until the sauce is completely smooth and all spices are well incorporated. Ensure there are no lumps.
Chill and Serve
  1. For best flavor, cover the bowl and refrigerate the Southern Comeback Sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. A longer chill time (1-2 hours) is even better.
  2. Serve chilled with your favorite fried seafood, chicken tenders, onion rings, French fries, or as a dressing for salads and sandwiches.

Notes

Store leftover Southern Comeback Sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. This sauce makes an excellent gift for friends and family! For a smoky kick, consider adding a pinch of liquid smoke, but use sparingly.
