Prepare the Sauce
- Scoop the flesh of the ripe avocados into your blender. Add the packed fresh cilantro, fresh lime juice, minced garlic, ground cumin (if using), and salt. If using, add the deseeded and chopped jalapeño.
- Start blending the ingredients on a low speed, gradually increasing to high. As it blends, slowly add 2 tablespoons of cold water to help reach a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Continue blending, adding more water one tablespoon at a time if the sauce is too thick for your preference. Scrape down the sides of the blender with a rubber spatula as needed to ensure everything is incorporated. Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if necessary, adding more salt or lime juice to your liking.
Serving and Storage
- Once desired consistency and flavor are achieved, transfer the avocado sauce to a serving bowl or an airtight container. Serve immediately, or chill for at least 15 minutes for flavors to meld.
Notes
For best results, use within 2-3 days. To prevent browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the sauce before refrigerating. This sauce is fantastic on tacos, burritos, salads, as a dip for veggies or chips, or drizzled over grilled chicken or fish.
