Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cottage cheese, self-rising flour, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using). Mix with a spoon or spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently for 2-3 minutes until the dough comes together and is mostly smooth. Avoid over-kneading.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 6-7 inches long. Bring the ends together to form a circle and pinch firmly to seal the seam, creating a bagel shape.
Air Fry
- In a small bowl, whisk the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper (if desired, or spray with non-stick spray).
- Brush each bagel generously with the egg wash. Sprinkle the tops with everything bagel seasoning (or desired topping).
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes. Place 2-3 bagels in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with remaining bagels.
- Allow the Cottage Cheese Bagels to cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and serving with your favorite toppings like cream cheese, avocado, or jam.
Notes
If you don't have self-rising flour, you can make your own by combining 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour with 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. For oven baking, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden. Store leftover bagels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. They can also be frozen for longer storage.
