Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients: low-sodium soy sauce, beef broth, honey, cornstarch, toasted sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set the sauce aside.
Cook the Beef and Broccoli
- Heat the avocado oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is fully browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the beef. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
- Add the broccoli florets and the 1/4 cup of water to the skillet. Immediately cover with a lid and let the broccoli steam for 3-4 minutes, or until it is tender-crisp to your liking.
- Uncover the skillet. Give the sauce a final quick whisk to ensure the cornstarch is incorporated, then pour it over the beef and broccoli.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring gently to coat everything. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
Serve
- Remove from heat and serve immediately. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions. This dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The sauce may thicken upon reheating; a splash of water can help loosen it.
Variations: Feel free to add other quick-cooking vegetables like sliced bell peppers, mushrooms, or shredded carrots. Add them to the skillet along with the broccoli.
Meal Prep: You can chop the broccoli, mince the garlic/ginger, and mix the sauce ahead of time to make cooking even faster.
