Method
- Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Arrange them in a single, even layer.
- Sprinkle the entire packet of dry ranch seasoning and the entire packet of au jus gravy mix over the top of the chicken, covering it as evenly as possible.
- Place the whole stick of unsalted butter on top of the seasoned chicken. Scatter the sliced pepperoncini peppers over and around the chicken. Pour the pepperoncini juice from the jar into the slow cooker.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6-7 hours or on HIGH for 4 hours. The chicken is done when it is cooked through and shreds easily with a fork.
- Once cooked, use two forks to shred the chicken directly inside the slow cooker. Stir the shredded chicken with the juices until it's well-coated. The butter will have melted and combined with the seasonings and juices to create a rich sauce.
- Let the shredded chicken rest in the warm sauce for at least 10 minutes to absorb all the flavors before serving.
Notes
Serving Suggestions: This flavorful chicken is incredibly versatile. Serve it on toasted hoagie rolls for sandwiches, over creamy mashed potatoes, cooked rice, or egg noodles.
Spice Level: For a milder flavor, use mild pepperoncini peppers and remove the stems and seeds. For a spicier kick, use hot pepperoncini or add a few extra peppers.
Sodium Content: The seasoning packets and pepperoncini juice contain a significant amount of sodium. Using unsalted butter helps control the overall saltiness. No additional salt is needed for this recipe.
